Abstract

Background. The definition of the general and specific features in the characteristic of a monastery or, in general, the regional monastic history, remains valid scientific task, having a wide view on the contemporary practice of church construction.
The aim of the study is to identify the external and internal causes of the dynamics of the monastic life in the changing historical conditions.
Materials and methods. The works on the history of monasticism imperial and postimperial Russia, the data of the periodical press of the XIX–XXI centuries, reference literature are brought to solve the task ol the research. The main source is the description of the monasteries, first of all, Tambov ones. The identified materials are interpreted in the logic of the general civilizational process of involving women’s society in ancient Christian tradition of monastic doing. Civilization principles specified data of a regional nature.
Results. The research showed that the succeeding ties of the monastic regional culture go back to the original period of Christianization of ancient Russia, whence originate form of monastic life, which vary in the regional practice. As a source of regional traditions considered the legacy of monastic culture Ryazan and Murom, Vladimir-Suzdal borderlands. The most influential in a new period of regional history is the spiritual experience of the Moscow monasteries, especially established by Sergiy Radonezhsky and his disciples.
Conclusions. Forms of monastic life in the historical borders of the Tambov province varied. The Women’s monasticism has developed under the influence of the male monasticism, under the authority of eldership. Social and ethnic structure of the monasteries was mixed. The regional history of monasticism, in particular, the female may not be adequately understood without taking into account the continuity of local traditions of the ancient monastic experience of activity. The dynamics of quantitative growth and qualitative transformation of monasteries and monasticism obeys the logic of the civilization process and specific historical conditions of the epoque.

Key words
